BRIEF BIO
I will be a junior at the University of Missouri starting Fall 2014. I'm a double major in anthropology and psychology, and I'm also minoring in chemistry. I'm from Arkansas, and I enjoy helping others as much as I possibly can. I'm involved in several organizations at the university, and one day I hope to become both a forensic archaeologist and a criminal psychologist. I enjoy reading, playing in the rain, singing and dancing.
WORK
My piece is a painting I created. It's inspiration came from the book, "Kite Runner." If you look closely the painting is two faces looking toward one another, but from another angle it's simply one face. I attempted to capture both of the main characters in the novel. I hoped to express that although they were two different people living in total opposite worlds, they were one and the same as far as goals and aspirations.
I believe this aligns with SPEAK's mission well in a sense that though we (people, humans) come from all walks of life and different backgrounds, we are all trying to achieve our dreams. In the world, where a person comes from doesn't matter. People aren't more valuable than the next human being because of their upbringing, and that's how it's supposed to be. We are all in the same race. We are all hoping to be someone great. We should be able to look at one another and see ourselves like my painting does the two characters.
