Self-esteem is referred to often, but what does it actually mean?

In general, self-esteem is related to how you view yourself and can be influenced by several internal and external factors. According to MayoClinic.org:

"When you have healthy self-esteem, you feel good about yourself and see yourself as deserving the respect of others. When you have low self-esteem, you put little value on your opinions and ideas."

Furthermore, relationships with others, your daily experiences, personal demographics and messages found in the media all could work to build or hinder an individual's feelings of self-worth.

Short, daily reminders/quick messages are ways that motivate me when I'm feeling down, and by reading and repeating them often I'm challenged to keep pushing forward.

If you're in need of a pick-me-up, try saying these either to yourself or out loud:

1) "I accept and love me for me."

2) "Today, I will avoid labeling myself."

3) "Today, I will avoid comparing myself to others."

4) "I have goals that are deserving of my attention. I will put them to action today."

5) "I will do what makes me happy today."
